Solutions

When rivers dry up during drought, entire eco systems which have taken millions of years to establish are in danger of being wiped out. Even when the river is eventually replenished through rainfall those eco systems are often lost. A feasibility study is therefore underway to see if it will be possible to transfer waters, via a pipeline to be constructed, between the River Fluvia and River Murga to safeguard the current bio diversity of this the Alt Emporda region. The fourth year of drought is unbroken here. Meanwhile a desalination plant is to be built which will service the north Costa Brava. Mediterranean Sea water will, after processing in the desalination plant, supplement the struggling rivers. Desalination at first glance seems such an obvious solution (no pun intended) though the disposal of salt waste from the valuable potable water is in itself problematic.
